My Digital Art Portfolio

Posted by admin on August 14th, 2010 and filed under digital art | 11 Comments »

This is a digital art portfolio I made in my Photoshop class in 12th grade, to send into different art colleges, It’s simply slides, strolling along with some music mixed together on the program Acid Pro. Most of my images are morphed out of my own photography or drawing worked with in Adobe Photoshop. This was editted together with Windows Movie Maker. It’s pretty warpy, like alot of my art hehe XD

…Oh yes, it actually does have a story, though you can draw from it what you want, its about me falling into a dream, there are 3 warriors, demons throw the world into darkness, they fight back. =)

MMORPA ART: Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Art

Posted by admin on August 14th, 2010 and filed under art online | 25 Comments »

An evolving painting created by four artists working simultaneously on the same digital canvas. The paintings metamorphic process was unplanned and free form. The artists took cues from each others actions and interpretation of various shapes/colors. Communication was made possible by text chat. The total elapsed time was 4 hours.

This is a remix of a video posted in July 13th 2009 by the name of “PolyScribe Metamorphosis”. The remix was necessary for the play length to fit the requirements for Youtube Guggenheim Play submission.

/// TIP!

The multiply method (color tut video 01) works best with brighter images or line-art and the color layer method (color tut video 02) works best for darker images as it will not effect white areas.

Having your line-art or b/w drawing and the color on separate layers you can adjust the colors by doing:

when working with color layer mode (color tut video 02), if the color does not look like what you have in mind then use image/adjustments/Hue/Saturation to tweak the color until you get the shade you need. You can lower the layer opacity to have less saturation too.

when working with multiply layers (color tut video 01) you can adjust the colors by using image/adjustments/Hue/Saturation

To get the best results you still can paint over on top of your image.
The downside of working with multiply layers is that you can not make good use of the color-picker unless the background is completely white.

PLEASE DISCUSS: Digital art controversy.. Is it freehand?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2009 and filed under digital art | 25 Comments »

I am trying to put together some vids for digital tutorials as well as some that talk about the advantage of digital as a medium. But there have been some out there who have had the misconception that the computer somehow “aides” the artistic process in a digital painting– meaning that you cannot “freehand” DRAW this type of thing without the help of the computer. I personally am fascinated by the different perceptions of people who do not seem to truly understand the process.
But here is a raw video excerpt for one of the little “documentaries” I will be editing together soon. The final vid will be examining the digital process as compared to the traditional process. Now, I must point out that I am simply scribbling a make-believe creature’s eye on both digital and acrylic paint. THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO LOOK IDENTICAL. The purpose of doing both of these is to primarily display the fact that they are both freehand, but obviously different mediums. (If I do a colored pencil sketch of something, and then an oil painting of the same subject- they are going to be different… Same scenario).

So anyway— I am posting this video to use the comment section as a forum and I’m inviting all of you to discuss your thoughts and opinions about what you see and how you feel about the digital vs. traditional debate. This is sort of some “research” to help me address certain things in my tutorials and documentaries that I will be creating.

Fire away!
