Olafur Eliasson – unbelievable physics in installation art

Olafur talks about a majority of his known artworks ranging from 1993 to 2008.
The video unfortunately does not include The Weather Project in Tate Modern, but that is a kind of an artwork, you can’t really see on a video or picture.

what classes are required to attend The Art Institute of Boston?

i am in High school now, and would like to attend the art institute of Boston…i would like to know what classes are required to attend this school. Or what classes i need to take and what classes i dont need to take in Highschool. if anyone knows, thanks

Go onto www.collegeboard.com, and type in the name of whatever college you are looking for, and click on the admissions tab, scroll down, and they will have a grid of required classes, standardized test scores, and recommended classes, etc. And any other info you may want to know in other tabs.

Does anyone know of any Art Colleges that require you to have credit in Art History to get in?

I’m trying to get a gym wavier and I have to find a college (probably an art college) that requires some credit in art history in order to be accepted. Some college names or sites would be great. Thanks.

From my experience researching colleges and the art majors, a lot of art colleges and art majors at universities make you take an art history course or two in your first year *after* you get accepted, to give you a background of how art has evolved from the beginning to the present day. Its their way of giving you a well rounded background of art. I’ve never heard of an art college that requires an art history credit to get in. Most art colleges require you to submit a portfolio, they want to see if you have potential. Art colleges mostly care about your portfolio, everything else is secondary.

Screen will be 2′x4′ and concave with the user’s head about 2′ away. HAving trouble diffusing the light enough.

If it is only 2′ x 4′, why do you care about expense?

Try tracing paper or frosted mylar. You can get them at a blueprint or reprographics company and they aren’t very expensive.

How can I appreciate modern art?

Went to the Houston Art Museum. I’m no expert, but I have half a sense of art appreciation. If i don’t "get it" on an artistic level, I can at least appreciate the craft, attention to detail, time and effort it takes to create a work of art. Then there was the modern art. I couldn’t fathom it, nor could I appreciate the craft as it all looked so much like a rush job. How is a canvas with painted squares art? Or an acrylic cube filled with pink sand considered display worthy? I see no craft, nor any astetics. Am I missing something, or is modern art simply a statement that there is nothing left to explore?

People have written enough to fill an ocean on both sides of this debate. but if you’d like something to think about that might give you the context for this art think about this.

For thousands of years (leading up to today even) there were very strict definitions on what was and was not "art." At one point illuminated manuscripts, jewelry, and architecture were considered fine art, and painting was merely a lowly craft (painters would do well to remember this sometimes). However much the times changed this basic fact remained, by some arbitrary definition, certain things were art and certain things were not.

One of the arguments of the modern artist was that "we can take this thing, be it a urinal, or some trash, or a completely random design on a canvas, and this can be art!" that might sound stupid but they were saying that by giving art a strict definition (like a painting or a specific kind of sculpture) we were choking the creativity and the life out of it. So the next time you see something like that, think about it as a sTatement that there is no paradigm for art, and the creativity of the artist is what should be held in esteem, not the medium.

Where to get an apartment near the Art Institute of Boston?

I plan to go to the art institute of Boston, and I was just wonder where abouts I could find an apartment that’s not too pricy and near the school? Not necessarily a specific apartment but just areas that might be good. K thanks!!!

Art institute of Boston is located on Beacon St. in Boston about a block from Kenmore Sq. The most convenient place/closest to the school would be a few blocks west of the school in Brookline. Brookline is a very nice part of town, close to everything and you can access the MBTA right on Beacon St. The only problem is that Brookline is pretty pricey but if you look for apartments west of Coolidge Corner you might find something more in your price range.

You could also consider Allston as an option. Allston/Brighton is just north of Brookline and also accessible by the MBTA but it is a little cheaper than Brookline.

Both trains in Allston and Brookline will take you right to Kenmore Sq. where you can walk over to your school.
